Dr. Sharp grew up in Victoria and graduated from Oak Bay High School. He attended both UVic and UBC, and received his dental degree (DMD) from UBC.  Dr. Sharp completed a two year (2500 hours of study) post-doctoral residency in orthodontics at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he learned from some of the top orthodontists in the world how to create beautiful smiles and happy patients.  The completion of this orthodontic residency at UCLA is the primary qualification that enables Dr. Sharp to be recognized by the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia as a Certified Specialist in Orthodontics.

Prior to receiving his dental degree, Dr. Sharp obtained a BSc in Biology and an MSc in Zoology from UBC.  Upon graduation from dental school of UBC, Dr. Sharp worked as a general dentist in Quesnel, BC for two years.  He then returned to academia to pursue a PhD in genetics at the University of Guelph.  After obtaining a PhD, Dr. Sharp was awarded a Medical Research Council Fellowship to do post-doctoral research at the University of Toronto and Stanford University. Dr. Sharp met his wife, Li, at Stanford University where she obtained a Master’s degree in Economics.  They have been married over 30 years and have three children.

Dr. Sharp enjoys learning and he brings his passion for learning to orthodontics. He has continued his "never stop learning" attitude to stay at the forefront of orthodontic knowledge and techniques through continuous study of the orthodontic literature, attending lectures, and belonging to a study club with other orthodontists.  He is a member of several prestigious organizations such as the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, the British Columbia Society of Orthodontists, Canadian Association of Orthodontists, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, and the Victoria and District Dental Society.

For the past 28 years Dr. Sharp has been creating beautiful smiles for both children and adults in Victoria through state-of-the art orthodontics.

When not working, Dr. Sharp loves to spend time with his wife and three children.  Growing up in Victoria, Dr. Sharp developed a love for the outdoors; he enjoys hiking, camping and boating.
